PTA Tax Calculator

A phone brought into Pakistan has to be registered with PTA within 60 days of arrival, or the network blocks it. The duty depends on the phone's value and on whether you register on your passport (within the allowance for an overseas traveller) or on your CNIC.

Use the value declared at customs. If you are not sure, the retail price of the same model is the closest sensible figure.

Duty on a phone worth Rs. 124,999 (Vivo V30)

Registering on your passport Rs. 30,000 Overseas Pakistani, within the traveller allowance
Registering on your CNIC Rs. 35,000 Everyone else, including phones bought locally as imports

Slab used: Rs. 100,000 – Rs. 200,000

How PTA registration works

Every phone used on a Pakistani network is checked against its IMEI. A handset bought locally from an authorised seller is already registered and needs nothing from you. A handset brought from abroad — carried in, posted, or bought from an importer — has to be registered, and the duty is paid once per device.

Dial *#06# on the phone to see its IMEI, then check that IMEI on PTA's DIRBS website before you buy. If it comes back as non-compliant, the duty is yours to pay, so treat it as part of the price.

An overseas Pakistani arriving in the country can register one phone per passport per year under the traveller allowance, which is why the two columns above are different. Everyone else registers on CNIC.
